Monday Motivation March 31

Grief has a way of pulling us into its depths, surrounding us with sorrow and making it hard to see anything beyond the loss. Yesterday, I attended a celebration of life, and it was a poignant reminder of how easy it is to get lost in heartbreak. This one was especially difficult—saying goodbye to a young man who was not only a wonderful person but also a lifelong friend of my son. They had been inseparable since childhood, and even when my son passed away, his friend remained a part of our lives.

Seeing photos of the two of them together was heartbreaking. It stirred up memories, both beautiful and painful, and for a moment, the weight of loss felt overwhelming. But then, as we gathered and shared stories, something shifted. Laughter broke through the sorrow. Memories surfaced—not just of the pain of losing them, but of the joy they brought into the world. The mischievous grins, the unforgettable adventures, the unbreakable bond they shared—all of it reminded me that love doesn’t disappear with loss. It lingers, woven into every memory, every shared moment, every story told.

As much as I miss Dakota, and as much as I will miss his friend, I know, deep in my heart, that they are together again. And if I know them, they are no doubt causing some kind of chaos, laughing all the way.

Until we meet again, boys. You will always be in my heart.
