September – Choosing Real Positivity (Without the Fluff)

Welcome to September! And yes, I know — I basically ghosted August. Let’s call it a “creative sabbatical” (a.k.a. life happened, motivation tanked, and I was probably scrolling instead of writing). But here we are, fresh month, fresh start.
I’m making September about positivity — but before you roll your eyes and click away, hear me out. I’m not talking about the Pinterest version of positivity where everything is sunshine, daisies, and “just smile through your pain.” That brand of toxic positivity makes me want to gag.
I’m talking about real positivity: the kind that still admits life is messy, grief is heavy, and some days feel like a dumpster fire — but also notices the cup of good coffee, the dog cuddles, the laugh that sneaks out when you least expect it.
For me, positivity isn’t about ignoring the hard stuff. (Trust me, I couldn’t ignore it even if I tried.) It’s about making space for light in the middle of it. It’s sarcasm that keeps you sane. It’s laughing at the absurdity. It’s reminding yourself that bad weather, bad days, bad moods — they pass.
This month, I’ll be exploring the many ways positivity sneaks into our lives:
The small joys we usually overlook.
How humor can keep us afloat when nothing else does.
Gratitude that doesn’t make you gag.
Finding balance between honesty and hope.
So if you’ve been struggling, if you’re tired of people telling you to “just think positive,” if you’re ready for a version of positivity that has a little grit, a little humor, and a lot of truth — stick around.
Here’s to September: progress, not perfection. And finding the bright spots, even if we have to laugh through the rain to see them.
