For February 2025, I’ll be focusing on the Work/Career section of my Life Wheel.
The Question: What is your current occupation? How do you feel about it?
My current occupation is Piloting (will need to describe this in detail) what I love and what I don't love about it.
Currently, work is slow, but my current occupation is as a Pilot Escort Vehicle Operator (PEVO). If you're not familiar with that, I’m one of the vehicles with flashing lights, warning the public about an oversized load coming their way.
For the past couple of years, my main job has been escorting oversized windmill blades from the Canada/U.S. border to their final destination. Leading the load, stopping oncoming traffic for tight turns, and ensuring the road is clear of obstacles became routine. But now, work has slowed—the wind industry isn’t moving as it once was, and opportunities have become fewer. These days, most of our limited movements involve large loads heading to Northern Alberta, shifting the focus to different challenges on the road.
How I feel about the job depends on the day. On the one hand, I appreciate that new projects are always on the horizon, offering the chance to see something different. But after doing the same route for two years, it has started to feel monotonous. Another challenge is that since my daughter had my granddaughter, I’d much rather be home with them than constantly on the road.
That being said, it’s a well-paying job, and it has given me experiences I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I’ve traveled to places I’d never been before (even within my province), met new people, and, at the end of the day, I genuinely enjoy driving.
For now, I’ll keep going, but I do hope to find something different that keeps me closer to home. Until then, I’ll stick with it—because, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not a bad job.

Right now, work is slow in my role as a Pilot Escort Vehicle Operator (PEVO). If you’re unfamiliar with the job, I’m one of the vehicles with flashing lights, warning the public about an oversized load ahead.
Lately, my main job has been escorting oversized windmill blades from the Canada-U.S. border to their final site. This involves leading the load, stopping oncoming traffic when the truck needs to turn, and ensuring the road is clear of obstacles. Since these blades are incredibly long, even slight curves in the road can be a challenge.

But after running the same route for two years, the work has started to feel monotonous. Still, I recognize that the slow periods in this industry create uncertainty, and I want to build something more stable for my future. Bold Steps Forward is about embracing change and actively working toward something better. I’m exploring new possibilities—ones that will keep me closer to home, give me more control over my time, and provide long-term stability.
For now, I’ll keep moving forward, one bold step at a time.
