Alive is a powerful and harrowing account of the 1972 Andes plane crash, an unimaginable tragedy that tested the limits of human endurance. Piers Paul Read masterfully recounts the aftermath, forcing the reader to grapple with the weight of survival, the "what-ifs," and the impossible choices faced by those who lived through it.
I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this book and honestly wasn’t looking forward to reading it. But once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The sheer resilience of these survivors—enduring freezing temperatures, starvation, and heartbreaking losses—left me in complete awe. Their struggle, pain, and determination to defy death in the harshest conditions make this story unforgettable.
This book does not glorify their experience; it is raw, brutal, and deeply unsettling. I learned things I never wanted to know and hope I never have to experience. Yet, within these pages lies a triumph of the human spirit, a testament to the unbreakable will to live.
